Power Skills

1.5 Leadership PDUs

Presentation Title:  Communication Skills: Communicate with Diplomacy and Tact

 Presenter Name:        Victor Delgado

Presentation Summary/Description:

As Project Managers we are often expected to know what to say and how to say it, in any situation. Others expect us to know how to communicate with diplomacy, tact, and confidence in order to meet the deadlines for the project. Research conducted by Mike Poskey at ZERORISK HR indicates that one of five emotional intelligence competencies that successful managers employ is called “social skills and political correctness.” This competency is important in all areas of life. The ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact improves our leadership skills by helping us manage changing environments, negotiate and compromise with others, resolve conflicts, gain consensus and collaboration, and create a cohesive project team.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the difference between diplomacy and tact
  2. Evaluate how to respond to difficult situations in a confident, diplomatic and tactful way
  3. Plan to give diplomatic and tactful feedback
